(April 7).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The release notes that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/payments-innovation\/2025\/open-banking-hits-15-million-united-kingdom-users-amid-record-growth\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">15 million consumers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and businesses in the U.K. are Pay by Bank users, the equivalent of nearly a third of the country&#8217;s adult population, with total users increasing 34% year over year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some estimates put total adoption throughout Europe at 64 million users, while at least 100 million U.S. consumers have granted third parties such as Trustly access to their bank data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cSurpassing 120 million users is a real milestone for Trustly and is testament to our central role in driving the momentum behind Pay by Bank globally,&#8221; said <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/se.linkedin.com\/in\/johan-tj%C3%A4rnberg-71315612\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Johan Tj\u00e4rnberg<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Trustly&#8217;s CEO.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;This achievement reflects not only Trustly\u2019s market-leading position but also the growing trust and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/payment-methods\/2025\/41-percent-of-pay-by-bank-users-want-to-pay-by-bank-beyond-retail\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">demand for Pay by two years, the release added, Trustly has added companies such as <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/booking.com\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Booking.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.att.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AT&amp;T<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.virginmedia.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Virgin Media<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to its roster of customers. It also has a contract with the British revenue and customs service, calling it &#8220;the UK&#8217;s most significant open banking mandate.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PYMNTS Intelligence has collaborated with Trustly on research into Pay by Bank usage. The report <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/study\/pay-by-bank-consumer-adoption-hinges-on-security-concerns\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPay by Bank: Consumer Adoption Hinges on Security Concerns\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found that around 30% of U.S. consumers had used Pay by Bank in the previous year, though the method makes up just 1.5% of consumer transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Pay by Bank has already cleared the industry\u2019s usual <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/study\/pay-by-bank-consumer-adoption-hinges-on-security-concerns\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">adoption hurdles<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,&#8221; PYMNTS wrote earlier this year. &#8220;Consumers do not need to download new apps, open new accounts, or learn unfamiliar workflows. They encounter the method in contexts that already feel bank-like: paying utility bills, transferring money between accounts, or funding subscriptions.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What hasn&#8217;t taken place is default behavior, the report said, with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/bnpl\/2025\/the-new-face-of-credit-is-the-debit-card\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">debit cards,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which offer minimal rewards and limited protections compared to credit cards, still accounting for around 30% of retail transactions in the U.S.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Their dominance <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/payments-innovation\/2026\/pay-by-bank-finds-momentum-as-consumers-rethink-cards\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reflects habit and trust<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> more than innovation,&#8221; PYMNTS added. &#8220;Debit is familiar. Consumers know how disputes work, when funds leave their accounts, and what happens if something goes wrong.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to this research, PYMNTS has covered some of the company&#8217;s recent product launches, such as Trustly ID, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/biometrics\/2025\/trustly-to-pilot-biometric-solution-in-finland-before-european-rollout\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">biometric payments solution<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> launched in Europe last year.
